Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking an innovative early childhood teaching assistant who provides a warm and welcoming presence and ensures student safety.  An ideal candidate has experience being responsible for the supervision of students ages 3 to 5. We are looking for someone who performs activities that ensure the safety, involvement, and creativity of each individual in the group. This part-time staff position reports to the Head of the Lower School and collaborates closely with the PreKindergarten and Junior Kindergarten faculty. 

Lower School, Floating PreK/JK Teaching Assistant
Maumee Valley Country Day School currently has an opening for an outstanding teaching assistant. The successful candidate must be a certified educator with experience working with preschool-age children and who possesses a true passion for developing a love of learning in his/her students.

This position reports to the Head of Lower School and collaborates closely with the lower school teaching staff. This is a part time hourly position.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Meet performance goals established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning
  • Involved in the supervision of the class or small groups of students at tasks assigned by the teacher in curricular areas (such as reading a story)
  • Assists in providing for the physical needs of students as regards health/hygiene, dressing/undressing (as appropriate), and toilet routines (as appropriate)
  • Model and reinforce positive behavior management strategies, encouraging cooperation, kindness, and respect among students
  • Actively supervise students and ensure student-to-teacher ratio is maintained at all times, including during outdoor/recess times, in restrooms and hallways, etc. to ensure student safety and well-being at all times
  • Assist with lunch and snack times and nap time
  • Ensure the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures and maintain the learning environment in a safe, orderly, and clean manner
  • Perform a variety of cleaning tasks
  • Involved in the observation of students and documentation of learning experiences
  • Actively engages in personal and professional work in support of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • Demonstrates a love for teaching and working with children
  • Performs clerical duties as required
  • Places a high value on productive collaboration between themselves and their grade-level partners
  • Displays a personal passion for keeping abreast of educational research and effective practice;
  • May need to cover short-term absences of the teacher
  • Works independently with minimum supervision
  • Engage in annual goal-setting and evaluation with the classroom teacher and the Head of the Lower School
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of the Lower School
